As a father, I wanted my children to understand more than what happened in the Gospel stories. A child may know that a woman was sick, a man could not walk, or a leper was healed without yet understanding the fear, loneliness, shame, longing, or helplessness that could surround those experiences.

The Day I Met Jesus slows each story down and enters it through the eyes of the person who met Jesus. By helping children understand what that person may have carried before the encounter, the transformation becomes more than an event from long ago. It becomes something they can recognize in their own fears, hurts, hopes, and struggles — and a way of discovering what meeting Jesus can mean in their own lives.
